In the two-player version, one player commands the Spartans while the other leads the Persians. For three players, two Spartans compete for Glory, while in a four-player game, the Persians aim to outscore each other by taking down Spartan Units.

Players start with their forces ready for battle at the Hot Gates. Spartans earn Glory Points each time they defeat a Persian Unit, while fallen Spartan Units are out of the game for good. The goal for Spartans is to reach 100 Glory Points, or 50 if playing with two Spartan players. The Persians must either eliminate the Spartans or delay them long enough for Ephialtes to reach the end of the Goat Path. With quick gameplay of 20 to 30 minutes, this game combines strategy and a bit of luck, all while bringing to life memorable moments from the film.
