Citadels is a game where players take on different roles each round, representing characters they hire to help gather gold and build structures. The game wraps up when someone builds their seventh building, and everyone counts their points to see who wins.

Players begin with building cards in their hands, which come in various colors. Each color has its own benefits, while some special purple buildings have unique abilities. At the start of each round, the previous king randomly discards a character card and chooses one for themselves before passing the cards around for everyone to secretly select their character. Each character has special actions to use, like stealing gold or destroying buildings. On their turn, players can earn gold or draw building cards, and then they can construct buildings for points. Bonus points are available for having a variety of buildings at the end of the game, making strategy important and gameplay exciting!
