In War of the Ring, two players take on the roles of the Free Peoples and the Shadow Armies. The Free Peoples start with some nations hesitant to join the fight against Sauron. Victory can come through military strength, but the real hope for the Free Peoples lies in the quest to destroy the One Ring at Mount Doom. As armies clash, the Fellowship must navigate dangers while trying to keep the Ring bearer safe.

Each turn features Action Dice that dictate the possible actions for the players, such as moving armies, recruiting troops, or advancing political influence. Players can also draw Event Cards, introducing unexpected twists that reflect key moments from the story. Balancing the protection of the Ring bearer with the need to defend against Shadow forces adds depth to this engaging adventure in Middle-earth.
